A couple of days ago, my cigarette lighter socket stopped working. Since my iPhone’s radio transmitter is powered from the lighter, I haven’t been able to listen to Pandora while driving . This unfortunate event has forced me to listen to Billings’ awful radio stations while commuting. Driving into work two days ago, Exile’s disco hit ‘I want to kiss you all over‘ came on the radio, and since that time it had been continuously playing in my mind until this evening. In order to purge it from my skull, I had tried listening to everything from Punk Rock to Opera to Blues to Mariachi , but nothing worked. The falsetto sung lyric’ till the night closes in’ kept ringing in my head. It kept ringing even as I was exploring new areas of the Yellowstone Wilderness Preserve today.
The area that I explored today, was the cliffs that overlooked the Yellowstone River. I’ve been shooting the river a lot lately, but never from this side, so I thought I would see how difficult it was to access.
The hike turned out to be an easy 25 minute hike through prairie dog country. It wasn’t very scenic, but the pay off was worth it.
The view was fantastic, and the cliffs were a blast to climb over. I even decided to try and take some self portraits with a timer as I climbed on around the limestone.
This was my make shift tripod for the last shot:
While posing precariously close to the edge of one of the cliffs, a loud cracking noise erupted from the rock that I was on, and a few rock fell off.
When I had safely inched back to safer ground, I noticed a little country ditty had begun to drown out the adrenaline pumping through my system. And after a moment, an immense amount of joy overtook me as I realized Roger Alan Wade’s ‘If you’re gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough.’ had — well– exiled Exile from my mind.
I’ll post some of the photos from today’s shoot tomorrow.
