Today, I was assigned to shoot a video of a Dog Park opening and a Butter Sculptor. Yes, you read that right… a butter sculptor. To be specific, his medium of choice is yak butter. The sculptor is Tibetan Monk Lama Penjo Bhutia who is on tour raising money and awareness of Tibetan issues. I have to admit, I was a little skeptical about shooting a butter sculptor, but when I saw his work, I was able to really appreciate it.
I also learned a valuable photography lesson from my co-worker Casey Paige. I shot the event at the beginning, while she shot it at the end. The monk had a more finished piece of work toward the end, thus her photographs were more compelling. While letting the video roll of the talk, I snapped a few still photos. You can compare my results to Casey’s by reading the story here.
