Nothing like car troubles to ruin a day. The engine light on my car had been on for a month. When I took into a service center they said that it was just sensor, and that I could take my time getting it fixed. Today, when I hopped into my car to go to work, it took about five minutes to get the car started, and it stalled twice while trying to back out of the drive-way. So, off to the mechanic we went. I wish I had more exciting pictures than this, but dealing with this fun stuff cut into my shooting time. I’ll have to make up for it this weekend.
This morning, I drove out to Stony Grit Fishing Hole which is located just outside of Worden, MT. This little stream was created when the Yellowstone River flooded earlier this year. Three months ago this entire area was submerged.

I drove out to Four Dances Natural Area hoping to get some shots off the cliffs facing the opposite direction of the cliffs where I have shot a number of times before in Swords and Zimmerman Parks. Unfortunately, the hike to the rims was a little bit further than I had anticipated so I had to make do with these shots.
Pretty straightforward landscape.
I had to lay on top of a small cactus to get this angle. No matter how careful you are, or how small the needles are, it will always hurt when you lay on a cactus.
Even oil refineries can look good with a beautiful enough sky, a windswept field, and a wide angle lens.
This is outside the entrance of the Park.
This was the street I took on my way back to work.
This year I wasn’t planning on making any wine from the fruit trees in my yard, but I knew that I would regret it it, if I didn’t make some. Today, I decided to make a fly by the seat of pants recipe, and hope that it turns out OK. Today was probably the last day that I had free that I could make it before the fruit went bad. So, here is what I came up with:
- apples 26 lbs from 6 different varieties
- plum 4 lbs
- crabapples .5 lbs
- Clover Honey 6.5 lbs
- Brown sugar 2 lbs
- Cane Sugar added until specific gravity was 1.09 ( I would have liked 1.1 but I ran out of sugar. So it will be a dry wine)
- Montrachet yeast 1 pkt
- Pasteur Champagne yeast 1 pkt
I have been pretty good this year about spraying wasp colonies on my property, so when I saw that so many of my apples were being ruined by them, I was bit dumbfounded about where they where coming from. Today, I noticed these little buggers hiding out under the eaves of one of my neighbors sheds. I couldn’t see a nest, but since there were so many guards hanging out on the eaves, I’m guessing that it is a pretty big one.
I also took a picture of the paint on the side of my chicken coop. I left the file size at the original size so that if you click on the image, it will bring up the original file size so that you can see all the cool little nuances of the texture.
